Helping Travelers Every Day: Meet On Call’s GRC Team!

global map concept with headset, plane and passport.

On Call’s Global Response Center’s (GRC’s) biggest responsibility is to fulfill our mission of helping travelers, every day, in their time of need. Every phone call (or live chat, text, or email!) our Global Response Center receives is an opportunity for us to help someone get prepared to travel or solve a problem while they’re away – whether it’s a medical emergency, political threat, extreme weather, or even a more common issue like a missed flight. Our empathetic GRC Team works diligently behind the scenes, 24/7/365, to ensure travel problems are not only resolved as quickly as possible, but that our travelers feel safe, prepared and supported every step of the way.

Whether you’re an On Call client or interested in learning a bit more about how travel risk management and assistance services work, this new blog feature serves as a way for you to ‘meet’ these kind faces on the other side of the phone (or keyboard!) and give you an inside look at On Call’s culture. Today’s featured GRC Team member is:

Ryon Mangroo, Global Assistance Coordinator

A Little About Ryon:
My name is Ryon Mangroo. I was born in South America (Guyana) and then moved to New York (the Bronx) where I spent most of my youth. From there, I moved to Orlando, FL. I started working with On Call almost five years ago. Prior to working at On Call, I worked in the banking industry. I have been married for almost fourteen years and have two children ages nine and six years old. In my free time outside of work, I enjoy doing anything outdoors – basketball, football, soccer, baseball – that involves playing with my kids. I also like to take care of my lawn and make people laugh.

Why is working at On Call to help people every day meaningful to you?
Working with On Call is meaningful to me because I love helping our customers and clients in their time of need while traveling. It’s motivating that I’m able to do this in my own way using the tools provided to me by On Call. It is very rewarding knowing that I am helping someone during their time of need and hearing positive feedback from those that I’m able to help always makes my day.

How have you made a difference in a traveler’s or team member’s day recently?  Working in a Global Assistance Coordinator role, I see lots of different types of cases and there are not many dull days on the job. One case that I worked on recently where I really made a difference: a traveler who had tested positive for COVID needed to self-quarantine at a hotel. She also needed to obtain medication since she was almost out. After a lot of research and phone calls, I was able to arrange a video call with an Urgent Care Doctor for her, and then get her prescription order sent over to the local pharmacy. From there, the traveler was able to get the medication she needed right to her hotel where she was quarantining. It was so rewarding knowing that I made a difference and helped this traveler who tested positive for COVID during her time of need.
