Staying safe while traveling begins with making smart choices about accommodations. This checklist is designed to help keep you and your travelers protected and prepared for hotel stays. Use this resource as a quick reference, especially in unfamiliar or high-risk environments.
-
Choose a Safer Room Location
Request a room located between the third and sixth floors, ideally at the back of the hotel and near a fire exit. -
Avoid High-Traffic Areas
Steer clear of rooms next to elevators, stairwells, vending machines, or other amenities that attract foot traffic. -
Protect Your Organization’s Identity
When checking in or out, avoid mentioning your organization’s name to maintain discretion. -
Keep Business Private
Refrain from conducting confidential work or sensitive conversations in your hotel room. -
Be Cautious with Smart TVs
Avoid logging into personal accounts on the hotel TV. If you do, make sure to log out before checking out. -
Secure Your Room from the Inside
Use a door wedge or portable lock to block the door while you’re inside the room. -
Keep Your Room Number Private
Don’t carry your room key card with the paper that shows your room number. Store them separately. -
Request a Multilingual Calling Card
Ask the front desk for a calling card with the hotel’s contact information in both your native language and the local language. -
Know What to Do in an Emergency
If someone enters your room without permission, call the hotel immediately for assistance.
